Winston is back home and recuperating via extended napping:
His surgery went well, except for a few hitches. Once they got in there, they realized that what they thought was one tooth was actually two crowded teeth - there was so much plague and tartar build up, it was nearly impossible to see that there were two teeth in the one area, so they ended up removing both teeth and once they figured this out, they realized a similar issue was happening on the other side of his mouth. Rather than remove those teeth as well, they injected the gums with some sort of antibiotic that should keep that excessive plaque and tartar build up from happening on the other side as well.
He is eating well and keeping everything down - which is really good and even though he's still groggy and sleepy, he seems to be happy and feeling much better this morning. When I picked him up last night it was like he didn't even recognize me - he was so out of it. But this morning he was excited to get up and eat breakfast (duh, he IS a pug - surgery or not).
Some of you commented yesterday that you'd like to follow me on Twitter. You can find me @ladypug (shocking!) I'd love to follow you on there as well, so find me and I'll follow you back.
Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers and reassurances! The Pug-Blog community is so amazing - you always have support even for those of us who aren't always as on-point about our blogs and commenting and keeping in touch as we should be (ie - ME). Thanks so much.
OH DUDE! We're so sorry about your toofers! Enjoy all those yummy soft foodables that are waiting for you!

So glad to hear his appetite is in tact. Always a great sign for the puggies! :)
ReplyDeleteMomma started following you on Twitter! Her name is nocheesepleez (because she doesn't like cheese. I KNOW. Weird, weird woman.)
Feel better, Winston!!
xoxoxo
We are glad they didn't have to pull the other two teeth out as well. We're also glad Winston is eating and feeling better. Get well soon, Winston.

hi rachel!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad winston is recuperating so fast!
he is such a strong puggy!
when emmitt was about 5 years old he had 8 teeth pulled and 2 dental implants pug into his lower jaw.
over crowding and genetics were the source but after that procedure, he never had issues like that again.
i bet just adding some room in winston's mouth will do the same good things for him!
i am sending you all our love and healing hugs!

LOL i typed pug instead of put.
ReplyDeleteteee heee!
Glad to hear that he's doing so well. I know that other dogs can skip a meal, but if one of my pugs didn't try to eat, I would be on my way to the vet. The only time Tallulah didn't eat was when she jammed her neck. Once she started on the pain meds, her appetite was back.
ReplyDeletethank you for the update.. we are keeping sweet puggy winston in our thoughts and prayers,, that he will keep getting better

I have a pug named Winston too :)
ReplyDeleteWhenever I'm worried about his health, I always tell myself that as long as he's eating (for the most part), he's probably fine!
I followed you on Twitter too - I'm @LindsayinNYC
Sorry to get into this so late, but we are glad the surgery went well. I know us pugs are resilient dogs!
